Secure network printing system from HP

By Susan — [ ] Reported at 3:00 am, 11/03/2007.

Hewlett-Packard has recently made the launch of a new product which has been named as HP Secure Print Advantage. This is a secure network printing system from HP that promises to secure an often overlooked vulnerability in many networks.

When a user that has alreayd installed an encrypting client sends a print job to the printer, it is decrypted at the secure document server and is scanned for malware. In case a malware is found, the job is terminated and the incident is logged for security reasons. If no malware or threat is identified, then the print job is re-encrypted and sent to the printer module. Secure Print Advantage allows systems administrators to set policies for print behavior.

The hardware part of the Secure Print Advantage solution consists of an HP document server and a printer module. The document server handles encryption of print jobs and manages cryptographic keys.
