Does acidic and alkaline urines cause kidney stones?
To classify a unine between acidic urine or alkaline urine, one has to find the pH of the urine. The lower the pH of the urine from the neutral level of 7, the higher is the acidicity. The higher is the pH of the urine from the neutral level of 7, the more is the alkalinity.
The pH of the urine of an average person varies from 4.5 to 8. It's the task of kidneys to take care of acidicity or basicity of urine. Kidneys reabsorb sodium and te balular secretion of ammonium ions and hydrogen. When the overall amount of sodium and access acid retained by the body increases, the urine becomes more and more acidic in nature.
Research has shown that different types of kidney stones are related with the overall pH of urine.
In alkaline urine, Calcium phosphate, magnesium phosphate and calcium carbonate stones are formed. When these kinds of kidney stones come up, the urine has to be made acidic.
In acidic urine, Uric acid, cystine, and calcium oxalate stones take birth.In such cases, the urine has to be made alkaline.
Conclusion - virtues always lie in the middle… So just drink lot of waters and never invite any kidney stones. Once invited, do the opposite to what you've been doing till date to eliminate kidney stones for once. Later, go back to follow the virtues lie in the middle policy and just keep it neutral with lot of waters intake and enjoy your life.
