From Mars To Titan - European-made space probe starts to land on Saturn moon Titan

By Susan — [ ] Reported at 7:47 am, 12/25/2004.

It's time for the NASA led Huygens probe to make a landing on Titan, the Saturn's largest moon. The probe separated from NASA's mother spacecraft friday morning to begin a descent to Saturn's largest moon Titan for an on-site study of the atmosphere of Titan.

The chemistry of Titan is believed to be very similar to that of the early Earth before life is formed. Scientists hope the on-site probe by Huygens would confirm the assumption and help them better understand how life appeared on the Earth. Titan is the only moon that has the atmosphere in the Solar system.

Mutual funds - About Mutual funds - Safe investing - Credit goes to fund managers.

By Susan — [ ] Reported at 3:53 am, 12/22/2004.

A mutual fund is a pool of money handled by a money manager on behalf of investors. The manager uses the pool of money to purchase investments which follow the fund's investment objectives. Investors purchase units that represent their share of the pool of money, and lose or gain money depending on the performance of the underlying investments.

If you are looking at a mutual fund investment, here are some things to consider:

Risk

While mutual funds offer the advantage of diversification, the amount of risk you take on depends on the funds you choose. Make sure the funds that you choose fit your risk profile.

Time horizon

If you need short-term access to your money and choose to redeem early, you may pay high fees or have to sell the fund when performance is poor. If you have a long time horizon, you may be able to take on more risk with your money.

Fees

Sales fees (also known as loads) affect your overall return and can vary widely between funds. Management fees such as the Management Expense Ratio get paid whether the fund performance is good or bad. It pays to shop around.

Online credibility, credentials check, beliefs and investing.

By Susan — [ ] Reported at 3:45 am, 12/22/2004.

The internet offers lots of information about finances and personal investing. You can easily access news, market data and educational information with the touch of a button. However, the internet is also a tool for con artists. Be alert for the following practices when you're online:

To Protect Your Money:

• Verify the online information with a credible source.

• Get a second opinion on internet investment opportunities from a qualified financial adviser.

• Check the registration of the person or company offering the investment.

Misrepresentation

Just because it's online doesn't mean it's true. The internet is not regulated. Company websites can be misleading; a company address listed on an attractive financial website could lead you to a scam.

Online Forums

You never know who the other people in the chat room really are. Con artists use fake online identities to post false news and predictions about investments for their own gain – and your loss.

Sony ready for competition…

By Susan — [ ] Reported at 9:30 am, 12/08/2004.

If ever there was a company that could challenge Apple Computer for the dominant position in the still-young digital music space, it should be Sony. Sony is mounting a new attack from an unlikely direction: video games. Sony's forthcoming Playstation Portable (PSP)–a handheld gaming platform–will be primarily a gaming device. But, its use of a new Sony-created storage disc format–the Universal Media Disc, which stores nearly 2 gigabytes–can't help but become an easy method for selling music.

I have learnt…

By Susan — [ ] Reported at 3:36 am, 12/04/2004.

I've learned….
That life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

I've learned….
That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for

I've learned….
That money doesn't buy class.

I've learned….
That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.

I've learned…
That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated and loved.

I've learned….
That the Lord didn't do it all in one day. What makes me think I can?

I've learned….
That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.

I've learned….
That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.

I've learned….
That love, not time, heals all wounds.

I've learned…
That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.

I've learned….
That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.

I've learned….
That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.

I've learned….
That life is tough, but I'm tougher.

I've learned…
That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss.

I've learned….
That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

I've learned…
That I wish I could have told those I cared about that I love them one more time before they passed away.

I've learned….
That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.

I've learned….
That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

I've learned….
That I can't choose how I feel, but I can choose what I do about it.

I've learned….
That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.

I've learned ..
That it is best to give advice in only two circumstances; when it is requested and when it is a life threatening situation.

I've learned….
That the less time I have to work with, the more things I get done.

Blogging as a Fundraiser…

By Susan — [ ] Reported at 4:15 am, 12/02/2004.

Shelley Powers is using her wordpress knowledge to raise funds for a camera project she has undertaken. With her knowhow, she's helping out people to migrate form Movable type to Wordpress.
She writes " I did want to say thanks to those who have helped so far with the camera fund, or have trusted me enough to manage the move of their weblogs. I also wanted to thank those who have come out with tips on what to do with my current quirky camera. Because of them, I can continue to take the photos just like the ones posted this week until I do get my new camera. "

Best Wishes For Selley.

Get custom fields value plugin for wordpress

By Susan — [ ] Reported at 7:33 am, 12/01/2004.

Scott at Coffee2code has written a very important plugin for wordpress that fetches and echoes the value of a custom field declared along with a post in wordpress. This is a very important plugin to expand the power of wordpress by adding more custom fields to a post. Simply add a custom field value in the post and call that custom field in the main loop or off the main loop in wordpress through any of the two different functions made to do the same… and cool… you get the custom field value fetched! This is something that wordpress developers have forgotten to add in their wordpress releases….
